Deep Fried Snickers

By

Once A Year is Plenty!

We make these about once a year at the restaurant where I work. Usually around the holidays, when sometimes business is slow, but everyone is feeling festive. We buy the king size bars, dip in funnel-cake batter, deep-fry and split them up between the staff. Yummy!

Maybe it'll become a Christmas tradition.

If you don't have a deep-fryer -and most people don't- I see no reason why you couldn't use a deep-sided skillet. Just be extremely careful because you need the oil to be about 375 degrees F. Please, keep a fire extinguisher close by.

King Size or Bite-size: That Is The Question

If you're making these for, say, a party or gathering, you might want to go with a bag of the bite-size bars, otherwise a few king size bars should be plenty.

The addition of lemon extract in the funnel cake batter gives this treat a little tang. Lemon and chocolate taste great together.

The procedure is simple: Simply dip Snickers bars into funnel-cake batter, deep-fry til they reach a golden brown color, remove from the oil and place on a rack to cool. But, don't wait til they're completely cooled before eating; They're best when still hot!

Funnel-Cake Batter

(The shown amounts are for a service of 8. Adjust accordingly)

  • 2-2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tspns baking powder
  • 1/4 tspns salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 tspn lemon extract

In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients first. Then whisk in the wet ingredients.

The Add-Ons

If you get these at a food stand on a pier, they'll typically offer a choice of toppings such as chocolate syrup, confectioner's sugar, cinnamon, whipped cream, etc. Personally, I don't think they need anything else, but if you're feeling dangerous, go for it!

I'm not getting the connection. What, or where, is Ojibway?

frogyfish 10 months ago

Oh-hh, I'm resisting, but it is painful! :-)

On your Constant Walker profile linage....we could be kissin' cousins, except that mine is Ojibway...

Best wishes on your continuing journey also!

It's literally TOO delicious. I strongly recommend using the little bite-size bars and no more than 3 or 4 ... or 10.

Then jog around the block.

I give up on even paying attention to politics. It's just depressing ... and who wants that?

marisuewrites 20 months ago

Exactly, the Repubs have decided that plotting and planning to take back power, the only thing that drives them, not the good of the people, but anyway....their plan consists of scream and lie loud and long. Pretty soon, people start believin....

what a mess. But, I'm ever hopeful. Surely we won't go back to what we had. It will be worse this time.

Artisan Walker 20 months ago

I agree, the Dems could be a bit more vocal - and Obama is beginning to take that route, but I think they're just doing what I am (an Independent); shaking their heads at the unbelievable stupidity.

I also think that it's a misconception that the majority of people are unhappy. Being the loudest (and getting the most media coverage) doesn't necessarily mean being the majority.

marisuewrites 20 months ago

Thanks, Ron, good to visit with you too. Personally, I'm very proud of Obama and all he's accomplished in spite of so many screaming Republicans. I wish the Democrats would have shown more back bone with his agenda. They have the majority, the weenies!! They should do what the Republicans would have and crammed it down their throats. Yes, I think all of our healthcare will improve in 2011 and 2012. =))

"Boom-de-adda, boom-de-adda."

I'll know sometime this month about the status of my case. I recently got health care (finally, thank you, Obama!) so the medical documentation piled up quick and the hearing went very well, so I'm hopeful.

Yep, I still walk - about 2 miles every day, and I still work-out regularly. It's more important now than ever since I'm at the computer so much with school (Art Institute Online Division).

It sounds like you're doing well. Good to hear. If you have a dog(s), taking them makes the walk a bit more fun.

I'll look for you again on Facebook.

Good to talk with you again!

Hi Ron, and yes, my websites are up and down....we made a few boo boos on the way I added products at Amazon, and Google banned the lot of them, so I'm starting over, wiser.

On facebook I think I'm either MarisueWrites or MarisueToo. LOL I forget. I'll try to get it checked out.

I am a marketer for an in home health/cargiver company. I travel in a 100 mile radius and the salary and bonus are the best I've ever been paid. Lots of fun, and work.

We are healthy, doing well. Did you settle your case?

Are you still walking? I'm walking myself now, office work has made me too soft and out of shape. It's painful to get started again, but it will be worth it.

Oklahoma is our home, so we were glad to come back, but I hear ya...some people thought we were nuts to leave the beach. I love the farmland tho. However, I love the mountains...space, beach, farms....LOL

(reminds me of the commercial where the astronauts are singing "I love the mountains...etc."

variety is the spice of life, yes?

be well, I'll blow the dust off my Facebook page...

I'm studying for my Bachelor of Science degree in graphic design/Web development. I'm about to get my Certificate of Completion in Adobe Photoshop, then I'm moving on to Adobe Flash - which is animation manipulation: commercials, videos, awesome Web sites, things like that!

Good to hear you're doing good (surviving?) in Oklahoma. You couldn't pay me enough ... but, that's just me.

I searched for you on Facebook, found two which might have been you and sent one a message. No response.

Facebook gets easier the more you work with it - you know, like everything else, including HP. Thanks to Facebook, I've reconnected with several old dear friends (I'm talking 30-to-40 years here!) and have the most extensive photo albums I've ever had (because I can copy from their photo albums) of both family and friends.

I poo-poo-ed it at first, but now I'm so glad my family talked me into it.

How's the writing venture going? Do you still have all those Web sites you were setting up?

marisuewrites 20 months ago

What are you taking in school? That's great! How are you feeling these days. I'm on facebook, but I'm rarely checking in there...haven't gotten the hang of it!! We finally made our move to Oklahoma, and have been busy surviving, but are settled in now. good to hear from you and to know you're well. I'll check on my facebook page, it's not much developed I don't think.

Artisan Walker 20 months ago

Long time no hear from, M! I'm not active here anymore - too much schoolwork - but I do try to check back regularly for comments.

You can look me up on facebook, though, if you've got an account. Cris A and I stay in regular contact there.

If I did this once, I would hold my breath until the next time, and then, because I'd gain 10 pounds per treat, I'd soon not be able to breathe....this is not for a girl who loves chocolate as much as I do....YUM!!!

and long time no see, by the way. =)) I'm baaaack! hee hee

You're welcome Shannon. Personally, I would advise no more than twice a week.

Shannon 21 months ago

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have become addicted to these tasty treats at a cost of $3.00 each bar. For about a week, I have had to have one (or two) every day. It became too expensive and so I found your recipe! Now, it's a lot cheaper to make and I must say, better! Thanks a lot!

Artisan Walker 2 years ago

Thanks, BP, I guess I can sorta see it with this particular shot.

Funne, I can't take the credit for this one. This, and other deep-fried sweets (such as Twinkies!), are big on the East coast.

Wow, your creation is like the 5th dimension version of my favorite snack: chocolate covered bacon back fat!

In this non-diabetic's life, as well!

Mars Bar, eh?

Chef Jeff 2 years ago

Deep fried mars bars is a Scottish treat. Yes, good for only once a year in this diabetic's life!

Artisan Walker 2 years ago

Ah, ya humorous bastard. You're truly an ass-hole! But, don't thank me ... it's all my pleasure.

And you know you're dying to try one ...

Adam B 2 years ago

I was thinking the other day as I was eating a snickers..."this is delicious but...how do I double the calories and add fat to this delightful treat?" then I thought..."I wish I could make this candybar even worse for me and add something that could instantaniously make my veins harden." Luckily I came across your hub, now all my dreams have come true.

Thanks Artisan Walker formerly Constant Walker

-K@ri, Of course it does ... have it with a snifter of Hazelnut Amaretto!

-Teresa, that's why I recommend splitting ONE king size bar with a couple friends. Okay, two!

Teresa McGurk 2 years ago

Good Gawd I heard someone else talking about these, but thought she was joking. Talk about a deep-fried sugar rush!

k@ri 2 years ago

Oh, how you tempt me!! :D These sound like they are to die for! Fried Snickers...does life get any better!? :D

Artisan Walker 2 years ago

Go for it! They're delicious.

SI want one of those like now....................

Artisan Walker 2 years ago

Thanks Jim. You should definitely try it. Be careful, I have the same weight "problem" but am also fighting to keep it off my gut.

How's that for irony!

jim10 2 years ago

That looks delicious. I heard of them before but, never got to try one. And I have always wanted a good funnel cake recipe. I think you might help me actually gain weight. Never been able to before. By the way I love how you put the little pictures on the side in the boxes. That went really well with this.
