Take A Pill - part 2: Death by Pharm

I saw this coming roughly 10 years ago. About 2 years ago--out of frustration--I published a hub called Take A Pill. What I did not see coming was the crop of ambulance chaser-type law firms specializing in the many ailments, diseases, and deaths caused to the many thousands of people rushing to get a prescription of the latest drug ... whether they actually need it or not.

If you haven't seen these commercials--sometimes two different ads during a single commercial break--you haven't been watching TV in the last few years.

Americans' zeal to shove pharmaceuticals into their face which haven't been properly, or sometimes even approved, by the FDA is a huge boon the law firm industry. And, like cigarettes, this habitually ailing nation shows no signs of slowing their consumption of these harmful and deadly drugs-of-the-day. Add to that the ever-rising rate of obesity in adults, teens, and kids--and the many related health problems associated with it, and soon law will outrank the tech industry as the high-paying degree to shoot for.

One could look at this situation optimistically, saying, look at all the law firms which now have work! Look at all the sudden windfalls for the ailing and diseased, and families of those killed! One could even say these dangerous pharmacauticals are creating more job stimulus than the Obama Administration. Am I reaching?

Give it time ...

I am a very empathetic person ... sometimes to a fault, but it is difficult for me not to shake my head and go "What-the-fuck did you expect?!" The warnings of the dangerous side effects of these drugs are on the bottles and boxes. Little pamphlets come with them, warning of the horrendous and possibly deadly side effects. The pharmacist is required to warn you of these things when you pick up your scrip. In magazines, drug ads have a whole separate page detailing what could (and probably will) happen to you if you take this pretty little pill.

I smoke. I love smoking! It would be like me trying to sue R.J. Reynolds if I get lung cancer! Actually, I think someone did that ... and won!

Anyway, you know what I'm saying: This shit is dangerous. And they tell you it's dangerous ... and deadly! These prescriptions are not highly addictive (not all of them, anyway) so ...

STOP DOING THAT!

Below, is a non-conclusive current list of the drugs and many diseases (death, among them) which the new crop of law firms are offering their services for:

Accutane: Crohn's; Irritable Bowel Syndrome; Ulcerative Colitis; Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.

Avandia: Heart Attack; Stroke.

Fentanyl, Heparin, Reglan, Seroquel: Death; Overdoes; Bruises; Tardive Dyskinesia; T.D.; Diabetes; Pancreatitis.

Levaquin, Paxil, Trasylol, Yasmin: Death;Tendon Rupture; Birth Defects; Heart Attack; Blood Clots; Tendonitis; Suicide; Stroke; Kidney Failure; DVT.

Digitek, Fen-Phen, Gadolinium, Propulsid, Rezulin, Seldane, Seroquel, Vioxx, Zyprexa: Dosage Errors; Pulmonary Hypertension; Renal Failure; NSF; Heart Attack; Arrhythmia; Liver Failure; Hyperglycemia.

There are long lists of drugs being investigated, which have already caused harmful side-effects, disease, and death.

Law firm commercials coming soon!

Wow! I just read in Discover magazine that a "non-harmful" strain of HIV is injected into white blood cells. They then attach to and kill leukemia cancer cells. They've cured three people so far! Naturally, they intend to try this method with all forms of cancer.

Very insightful Artisan Walker. It is a vicious circle, you need some drugs to maintain our health, but at the same time, many of these drugs are creating more harm. My daughter's soccer coach is a researcher at a huge pharmaceutical co. He works on HIV drugs. He recently told me that HIV has so many mutations that they keep adding new variations to their HIV drug while keeping all the other formulation there as well. That is close to 20 years of variations in the same drug for all the different HIV mutations.
